Tough, Handy and Good Lookin’

Welcome to Aesthetics in the New Millenium!

Aesthetics has been described as the philosophy of beauty and art; this blog is dedicated to the reinterpretation of the term aesthetics and to both the expansion and refining of this field.  We take a hammer (albeit a beautiful one) to some of the long-standing conventions in this realm of philosophy and search for ways to make it a pursuit with practical applications.

Firmitas, Utilitas, Venustas.  These words translate to Strong, Useful, Beautiful (respectively) and can be found etched in the stone archways of many schools of architecture.  In the New Aesthetics, we don’t seperate strength, utility, or for that matter, morality from Beauty.  Additionally, we consider art and design as the application of Aesthetics.

More to come…
