{"id":114,"date":"2021-01-22T12:01:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T12:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/?p=114"},"modified":"2021-01-22T12:01:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T12:01:20","slug":"exploring-finnish-foods-the-pastry-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/2021\/01\/22\/exploring-finnish-foods-the-pastry-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Exploring Finnish Foods: the Pastry Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Let\u2019s explore Finnish foods!\u00a0 I love eating sweets versus savory for breakfast, so I went to the bakery section of the grocery store sample some pastries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bakery section has the usual selection of donuts and rolls, but I am going to pick two that seem unique to Finland.\u00a0 So the two candidates are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Dallaspulla (about .99 euros)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101159-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101159-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101159-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101159.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By appearances this looks like a sweet roll with a cream cheese (danish like custard).&nbsp; When we cut inside the middle is dense, outside is flaky and buttery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101301-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101301-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101301-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101301.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The filling on top does indeed taste like a cream-cheese danish. \u00a0\u00a0It is good, more like a bread.\u00a0 Definitely filling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Kermaviineri irto (about 1.75 euros)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the outside looks like a sweet roll dusted with powdered sugar, but does feel a little dense (and comes with a nice paper plate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101151-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101151-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101151-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101151.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ok, let\u2019s cut inside.\u00a0 WHOA \u2013 what do we have here?\u00a0 Well hello to some surprise yummyness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101238-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101238-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101238-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/zobitz\/files\/2021\/01\/20210122_101238.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is some surprise filling inside here.\u00a0 The picture may not show it too well, but the filling is white at the center, and perhaps ringed with jam on the outside.\u00a0 Intriguing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outside tastes like a croissant (and is flaky to boot!).\u00a0 Love the addition of the whipped cream and (strawberry?) jam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, both are very yummy.&nbsp; If I were to pick one as a winner, it would be the kermaviineri irto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking forward to trying more food!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let\u2019s explore Finnish foods!\u00a0 I love eating sweets versus savory for breakfast, so I went to the bakery section of the grocery store sample some pastries.
