{"id":41,"date":"2013-10-04T19:22:38","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T19:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/?p=41"},"modified":"2013-10-04T19:24:05","modified_gmt":"2013-10-04T19:24:05","slug":"big-self-vs-little-self","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/2013\/10\/04\/big-self-vs-little-self\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Self vs little self"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/files\/2013\/10\/tumblr_mhpogtXTIo1rgy8pno1_1280-n72hft.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42\" title=\"Through the self to the Self.\" src=\"http:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/files\/2013\/10\/tumblr_mhpogtXTIo1rgy8pno1_1280-n72hft.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/files\/2013\/10\/tumblr_mhpogtXTIo1rgy8pno1_1280-n72hft.jpg 612w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/files\/2013\/10\/tumblr_mhpogtXTIo1rgy8pno1_1280-n72hft-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/veitenhe\/files\/2013\/10\/tumblr_mhpogtXTIo1rgy8pno1_1280-n72hft-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/a>When I first came to yoga I remember being bothered by the dharma talk that some teachers would give in regard to the word \u2018self.\u2019\u00a0 Previous experience in my life taught me that my will is wrong and I should only be doing Gods\u2019 will.\u00a0 Why would I have the innate answers to life inside myself, which I thought undoubtedly would only contain my selfish will?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m blessed that I\u2019ve gotten the opportunity to expand past this perception and learn that there are two selves in yoga.\u00a0 One being the little self, this is the self that I equated with my will.\u00a0 It\u2019s those animalistic tendencies we have to take our protective instincts too far, resulting in selfish actions to protect ourselves and those we love.\u00a0 After some research I learned that the big Self was actually perfectly aligned with my perception of God.\u00a0 This Self is the higher knowledge in us that knows that we are all connected and essentially all of one.<\/p>\n<p>Although this may seem like a miniscule discovery it changed my spirituality.\u00a0 While before I was hopeless to infinite knowledge as it chose my destiny, now I see that infinite knowledge, or the Self, is in every one of us.\u00a0 If there were to be some higher power where else would it linger but collectively in our souls?\u00a0 Finding a location for the infinite has made it easier to find when I lose it, because according to yoga-it\u2019s never really lost.<\/p>\n<p>This was a huge step in my yoga practice.
