{"id":7,"date":"2013-10-09T16:46:44","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T20:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/colemanj\/?p=7"},"modified":"2013-10-09T16:46:44","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T20:46:44","slug":"beauty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/engage.augsburg.edu\/colemanj\/2013\/10\/09\/beauty\/","title":{"rendered":"Beauty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beauty<\/p>\n<p>Websters defines beauty as<em> &#8220;the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>The Wikipedia definition of beauty is <em>&#8220;Beauty is a characteristic of a person, animal, place, object or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure or satisfaction.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>These two popular definitions support the New Aesthetics stance that Beauty shouldn&#8217;t be seperated from Utility, Robustness or Morality, since Beauty or &#8220;the quality that gives pleasure&#8221; may very well be the utility, morality or strength of the person or thing.\u00a0 Take for example the Wagenfeld Lamp generated by the Bauhaus movement.\u00a0 The lamp is, for many, pleasing to the eye in it&#8217;s elegant design and this is sufficient to &#8220;give pleasure to the senses&#8221;.
