Outside Scholarship Augsburg Policy

Augsburg College Outside Aid Policy:

  • A student may receive outside aid/scholarships in excess of the cost of tuition. All aid (federal, state, Augsburg, and outside aid/scholarships) for a student must fit within the student’s Cost of Attendance. (COA). If funding is in excess of the COA, the college would reduce Augsburg aid. Any scholarship or grant funding that is in excess of tuition and fees is considered taxable income.
  • The combination of any Augsburg gift aid (merit or need-based aid awarded at the point of Admission or later in a students’ tenure) along with Pell grants and Minnesota State Grants cannot exceed the cost of Augsburg College tuition and fees.

  • If an outside scholarship applies to a student’s account after need based federal loans have disbursed, the student can keep any disbursed need based loans.

  • Outside scholarships are considered need based aid, as is American Indian Funding.

  • Third party payments from the following sources are not considered need based aid: Veterans Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation and State Services for the Blind

Cost of Attendance:

  • All aid for a student must fit within the student’s Cost of Attendance (COA). Cost of Attendance is the calculated cost of attending the institution, which includes books/supplies, tuition and fees, and room/board.  The COA is set by the college each year. Any increase to a student’s COA is a professional judgment and thus requires appropriate documentation and review by a counselor.
